Three Epic Ways to Watch Blue Angels Practice from the Water
Why watch from the water? Simple! No crowded parking lots, no fighting for a patch of grass, and dolphins might just join your viewing party. Plus, there’s something magical about jets screaming overhead while you’re cruising Pensacola Bay with the salt breeze in your hair. Here are your options:
1. Blue Angels Dolphin Cruise on the Frisky Mermaid
Best for: Families, groups, and anyone who wants the full Pensacola experience without the hassle
Hop aboard our 49-passenger vessel for a 2.5-hour adventure that combines dolphin watching with Blue Angels viewing. We depart at 9:35 AM from behind Shaggy’s, cruise Pensacola Bay searching for our playful dolphin friends, then position you for prime viewing when the jets take flight at 10:30 AM. Your local captain shares insider knowledge about the bay, marine wildlife, and our hometown heroes in blue. If the Blues don’t fly due to weather or scheduling, your cruise becomes an extended dolphin tour-so you’ll make waves no matter what!
2. Private or Semi-Private Charter Cruises
Best for: Couples, small groups, corporate outings, and special celebrations
Want a more intimate experience? Charter one of our smaller vessels for groups of up to 6 on a semi-private or private cruise. We can also accommodate larger private groups of 9, 18, or 27 guests. You’ll get the same incredible views with a more personalized touch-perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, team-building events, or just treating your favorite pod to something special. Private charters include flexibility in timing and can add beach stops at our secret snorkel spots.
3. Captain Your Own Pontoon Boat Rental

Cruise out to a secluded sandbar, anchor up with snacks and drinks, and watch the Blue Angels practice overhead while the kids splash in the shallows. Our fleet features 140 HP 4-stroke Suzuki engines, and no boating license is required (though we do provide a safety orientation). It’s the ultimate flexibility for creating your own Pensacola Beach adventure.

80 Years of Our Hometown Heroes in Blue
This season marks the Blue Angels’ 80th anniversary and coincides with America’s 250th birthday-making. This makes every practice and air show a celebration of eight decades of precision flying, and 250 years of American spirit. Whether you’re a first-time visitor to Pensacola, or a lifelong local, watching the Blue Angels fly from the water offers the most sea-sational perspective you’ll find anywhere on the Gulf Coast.
The Blue Angels have called Pensacola home since their formation in 1946, when Admiral Chester Nimitz envisioned a flight demonstration team to showcase naval aviation excellence and boost military morale after World War II. What started with F6 Hellcats has evolved through generations of aircraft-the Bearcat, Panther, Cougar, Tiger, Phantom, Skyhawk, and the legendary F/A-18 Hornet that thrilled audiences for 34 years.

Today, the team flies the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet-a combat-proven aircraft that’s approximately 33% larger than its predecessor-along with the C-130J Super Hercules affectionately known as “Fat Albert.” The squadron comprises more than 150 active-duty Sailors and Marines who represent the very best of naval aviation. As CAPT Adam Bryan, the 2026 Commanding Officer and Flight Leader, notes: the Blue Angels exist to bridge the distance between the American people and the men and women who defend our nation.
Practice sessions run from March through October at Naval Air Station Pensacola, typically on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Blues take to the skies around 10:30 AM for approximately 50 minutes of gravity-defying formations, including their iconic six-plane delta maneuver that’s been thrilling crowds since the 1950s.
Frequently Asked Questions About Watching Blue Angels from the Water
Where is the best place to watch Blue Angels practice in Pensacola?
The best place to watch the Blue Angels fly is on the Frisky Mermaid! Watching from the water on a boat cruise or pontoon rental offers unobstructed views without crowded parking lots. Popular land-based viewing includes the National Naval Aviation Museum flight line, Fort Pickens, and Pensacola Beach. However, being on a Frisky Mermaid dolphin cruise or pontoon boat puts you right in the action zone where the jets perform their maneuvers.
Can I see dolphins while watching the Blue Angels?
Yes! Our Blue Angels dolphin cruises combine both experiences. Pensacola Bay is home to a resident population of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, and we almost always spot them during our cruises. It’s a true match made in coastal paradise-jets in the sky and dolphins in the waves!
What time do the Blue Angels practice?
Blue Angels typically begin their practice demonstrations at 10:30 AM and fly for approximately 50 minutes. Our Blues Cruise departs at 9:35 AM to ensure you’re positioned on the water before the jets take flight.
What happens if the Blue Angels don’t fly on my scheduled cruise?
If weather or operational requirements prevent the Blue Angels from flying, your cruise becomes an extended dolphin and scenic bay tour. You’ll still enjoy a mermazing morning on the water searching for dolphins, exploring Pensacola Bay, and learning about local marine wildlife from your captain.
Do I need a boating license to rent a pontoon in Pensacola?
You must be at least 25 years old and have prior boating experience to rent a pontoon boat. We provide a comprehensive safety orientation before departure, and our team is available to answer questions throughout your rental period. Pontoon boats are user-friendly, fully shaded and comfortable for the whole pod…even Fido!
Ready to Make Waves with the Blues?
