Pensacola Seafood Festival 2026 โ Things to Do Beyond the Festival
Pensacola Seafood Festival 2026 โ Things to Do Beyond the Festival
The Pensacola Seafood Festival returns September 25โ27, 2026, and if you’re making the trip to Pensacola this fall, you already know what to expect โ fresh Gulf Coast seafood, live music on the bayfront, and that unmistakable feeling that summer isn’t quite finished yet. But here’s what a lot of festival visitors don’t realize: Pensacola Beach is just 20 minutes away, and the water is still warm, the dolphins are still out, and the crowds are a fraction of what they are in July.
The Seafood Festival weekend is one of the best-kept secrets in Gulf Coast travel. If you’re already coming to Pensacola, stay an extra day, cross the bridge to the beach, and get out on the water. Here’s how to make the most of it.
About the Pensacola Seafood Festival
Now in its decades-long run, the Pensacola Seafood Festival is one of the Gulf Coast’s signature fall events. Held at Seville Square in downtown Pensacola, the festival draws tens of thousands of visitors over three days for fresh Gulf seafood, craft vendors, live entertainment, and the kind of easy, open-air atmosphere that makes Pensacola one of the most welcoming cities on the Florida Panhandle.
The 2026 festival runs Friday September 25th through Sunday September 27th. Admission is free. Parking fills up fast downtown โ many visitors stay on Pensacola Beach and make the short drive over for the festival, then head back to the beach for the evening.
Why September Is One of the Best Times to Visit Pensacola Beach
This is the part most out-of-town visitors don’t know: September and October are genuinely some of the best months to be on Pensacola Beach. The summer crowds have thinned out, local kids are back in school, and the beach takes on a slower, more relaxed rhythm that regulars wait all year for.
The water temperature in late September is still hovering around 80 degrees โ warm enough for swimming, snorkeling, and spending the day on a pontoon. The air temperature drops into the low-to-mid 80s during the day with cool evenings. The dolphins are still actively feeding in Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay. And availability on dolphin cruises and pontoon rentals is dramatically better than it is in July โ you can book the date and time you actually want rather than working around whatever’s left.
Water temp: ~80ยฐF
Air temp: Low-to-mid 80s during the day, cool evenings
Crowds: Significantly lighter than summer
Dolphins: Actively feeding in Santa Rosa Sound & Pensacola Bay
Drive from downtown Pensacola to the beach: ~20 minutes
Add a Dolphin Cruise to Your Seafood Festival Weekend
The Frisky Mermaid runs daily dolphin cruises year-round, and the Seafood Festival weekend is one of our favorite times to be on the water. Smaller groups, calm Sound, and dolphin pods that have had all summer to get comfortable with the boats mean September cruises consistently rank among the best dolphin sightings of the year.
Here’s how most festival visitors work it into the weekend: arrive Friday, spend Saturday morning on the water with Frisky Mermaid, head downtown for the festival in the afternoon, and enjoy the beach Sunday before heading home. It’s a full Gulf Coast weekend without feeling rushed.
Shared Dolphin Cruise โ From $32 per person
Board the Frisky Mermaid and cruise Santa Rosa Sound while our captain tracks down the resident dolphin pods. 1.5 to 2 hours, all ages welcome, daily departures. The easiest and most affordable way to see wild dolphins up close on Pensacola Beach.
Sunset Dolphin Cruise โ From $64 per person
Festival weekend evenings on the water are something special in September. Small group, relaxed pace, and a Gulf Coast sunset that earns every photo. Perfect for couples and anyone who wants to end a Pensacola evening the right way.
Private & Semi-Private Cruises โ From $315
Coming with a group? A private cruise on the Frisky1 or 2Frisky accommodates up to 6 guests and lets you set the pace. Ideal for families, friend groups, and anyone who wants the dolphin experience without sharing it with strangers.

Rent a Pontoon and Explore on Your Own
If your group wants more flexibility than a guided cruise โ or if you’d rather spend the full day on the water at your own pace โ a Frisky Mermaid pontoon rental is the answer. September pontoon days on Santa Rosa Sound are genuinely spectacular. Anchor at Sand Island, cruise to a secluded beach only reachable by boat, or just drift in the calm morning water with a cooler and good company.
Half day, full day, and multi-day rentals are available. The fleet is tritoon โ more stable and more comfortable than a standard pontoon โ and no prior boating experience is required beyond a brief safety orientation at the dock. Dogs welcome.

Where to Stay for the Seafood Festival Weekend
Most visitors split the difference between downtown and the beach. Staying on Pensacola Beach puts you 20 minutes from the festival and walking distance from the Frisky Mermaid dock at 715 Pensacola Beach Blvd. Major hotels on the island โ Hampton Inn, Hilton Pensacola Beach, Holiday Inn Resort, and Portofino Island Resort โ are all within a short drive of our departure point.
If you’re staying downtown, the drive to the beach is easy and worth making. Gulf Breeze and Navarre are also popular base camps for Seafood Festival weekend visitors who want something between downtown and the beach.
